Our History
Mr Lim Chai Kiui is the founder of Kim Soon Lee and has been its Managing Director since its inception in 1968. Kim Soon Lee started with one Chevrolet lorry in 1968 which expanded steadily to over 180 Lorries, Prime Movers, Crane and Trailers of various types by the turn of the 21st century.
The breakthrough for Kim Soon Lee was in the mid-1970s when Mr Lim purchased his first unit of Prime Mover and Flatbed Trailer. This was followed rapidly by the second and third units of Prime Movers and over 10 units of Flatbed as well as Lowbed trailers. There was no looking back from then on as, pioneered by the economic growth of Singapore in the 1970s to 1990s, Kim Soon Lee's heavy equipment transportation wing grew rapidly. By the 1990s, it has become a household name among insiders in the heavy transportation market.
Another milestone for Kim Soon Lee came in the late-1990s. Seeing a decline in the requirement for heavy equipment transportation, but a rise in demand for higher technological-based and one-stop equipment handling services, Mr Lim re-focused to build up the general transportation and moving wings of Kim Soon Lee. From being a heavy equipment specialist, Kim Soon Lee diversified to provide machinery shifting, positioning, packing, crating and uncrating services.
While the above diversification took place, efforts to expand the transportation wing of the company did not slow down. Rather, it was intensified. The period from year 2000 till mid 2009 saw the total vehicular fleet comprising prime movers, trailers, lorry cranes and forklifts expand from 70 to 250. Staff number also increase from 40 to 220 during the same period. Staff numbers also increased from 40 to 190 during the same period.
To complement the surge in number of vehicles, two additional properties; namely 4 acre Bedok yard and 2.5 acre Toh Tuck yard were purchased respectively in 2005 and 2009. The former currently house our company's headquater while the latter, together with the original Eunos yard, shall serve as our parking and maintenance centers.
